Seed sacrifice

Seed sacrifice, also known as seed thinning or seed reduction, is a gardening technique where some seedlings are intentionally removed or sacrificed to give the remaining seedlings more space, water, and nutrients to grow stronger and healthier.

This technique is often used when seeds are directly sown in the garden, and multiple seeds germinate in the same spot. By removing weaker or excess seedlings, the remaining plants have better access to:

1. Light

2. Water

3. Nutrients

4. Air circulation

Seed sacrifice helps promote healthy growth, prevents overcrowding, and increases the chances of successful harvests.
